Rep. Adam Schiff is getting snubbed big time.
According to the Daily Mail, almost a third of the Republican senators did not attend Schiff’s second speech before the chamber on Wednesday.
Rep. Mark Meadows gave his reasoning — in a very blunt way — as to why senators aren’t showing up: “‘You want to take an aspirin to get away from the repetitive headache.”
Schiff even noticed the lack of senators in attendance, scolding Republicans for either coming in late or not attending at all.
‘I’m not sure the chief justice is fully aware of just how rare it is, how extraordinary it is for the House members to be able to command the attention of senators sitting silently for hours or even for minutes, for that matter,” Schiff stated.
“Of course, It doesn’t hurt that the morning starts out every day with the sergeant-at-arms warning you that if you don’t, you will be imprisoned,” he added. “It’s our hope that when the trial concludes, and you’ve heard from us and you’ve heard the President’s counsel over a series of long days, that you don’t choose imprisonment instead of anything further.”
At one point during Schiff’s speech, there were 16 empty seats on the senate floor — unprecedented for this type of proceeding.
But, senators are bored. In fact, some have fallen asleep and others have passed out fidget spinners to colleagues during lunch breaks.
Schiff apologized for his repetition, but it’s yet to be determined whether Republicans can forgive eight hours of Democrat reiterations.
‘I must ask you for some forbearance. Of necessity, there will be some repetition of information from yesterday’s chronology, and I want to explain the reason for it. You have now heard hundreds of hours of deposition and live testimony from the house condensed into an abbreviated narrative of the facts. We will now show you these facts and many others and how they are interwoven,’ the Democratic congressman said.
