2020 Election

British Bookie: Meghan Markle Leaving Royal Family To Possibly Run For U.S. President

The 2020 election could be getting very interesting in the near future.

As many know, in the last week Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have decided to step away from the Royal Family for the time being, along with abandoning official duties, in pursuit of a more independent lifestyle.

And British bookmaker Ladbrokes just slashed the odds from a 500-1 chance to a 100-1 chance that American-born Markle — who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California — may run against President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

While it’s still the longest of long shots, Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati says not to rule anything out.

Apati told the Press Association: “The bombshell announcement has proven we can’t rule anything out and now that Harry and Meghan have stepped down as senior royals, a shock presidential campaign could be on the cards.”

Additionally, the bookies at Ladbrokes also reduced the odds on the couple renouncing their official royal titles — which are His/Her Royal Highness — from 5-1 to 5-6.

“It’s now an odds-on shot that Harry and Meghan relinquish their HRH titles after Wednesday’s breaking news,” Apati said.

The theory of a last-minute, shock-the-world presidential campaign is helped on by the fact that Prince Harry is good friends with former President Barack Obama and that Markle herself has been vocally anti-Trump before becoming part of the Royal Family.

In 2016, Markle called Trump “divisive” and a “misogynist” during an appearance on The Nightly Show, saying that she would consider leaving America and moving to Canada if Trump was elected, according to Breitbart.

“It’s really the moment that I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada,” Markle said. “I mean, come on. If that’s really the reality that we are talking about, come on, that is really a game-changer in terms of how we move in the world here.”

She continued: “Yes, of course, Trump is divisive. Think about just female voters alone. I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That’s a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is and so vocal about it, that’s a huge chunk of it.”
