Impeachment

Democrat Senator: I Don’t Care About ‘Constitutional Defenses’ That Support Trump

Democrats have spent the last 24 hours seething about losing the critical witness vote, which would have extended the impeachment trial in the senate another few weeks at the very least.

And one Democrat senator doesn’t even care what Constitution may say in support of President Donald Trump.

Sen. Mazie Hirono told MSNBC on Saturday that she doesn’t “care what kind of nice, little, legal, Constitutional defenses that they came up with,” referring to Trump’s defense team.

Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel commented on the clip of Hirono, saying,”Democrat leaders want to destroy the Constitution in order to impeach [President Trump].”

Other Democrats have shown they’re not fond of the decision to end the impeachment trial so quickly, with Rep. Maxine Waters going on a Twitter tirade about the GOP senators.

“I’ve never seen a more insufferable & pathetic group of Senators than those in the GOP,” Waters wrote. “They’ve chosen to strap themselves to a corrupt con man they KNOW is guilty. They’re all cowards. None of them belong in the Senate. They should go home and grow a backbone!”

The impeachment process is expected to wrap up on Wednesday with an acquittal vote, as an agreement was made between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to close out the trial.
