President Donald Trump has a new best friend in the Senate — Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
On Thursday, McConnell appeared with Fox News’ Sean Hannity to discuss the upcoming impeachment trial in the Republican-controlled Senate.
What’s the majority leader’s plan? Do whatever Trump and the White House want him to do.
“Everything I do during this, I’m coordinating with White House Counsel,” McConnell told Hannity. “There will be no difference between the president’s position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can.”

Additionally, he said that his lawyers and the White House lawyers will be going back and forth about what evidence to bring forth and what witnesses will be called to testify during the trial.
It’s a team effort by the Republicans — and Democrats are not happy about it.
Democrat Senator Bob Bennett slammed the cohesion of Senate Republicans and the White House, saying that McConnell should not be doing “the president’s bidding.”

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Illinois, also decried McConnell’s pledge to aide Trump, saying, “At the end of the day, Mitch McConnell is a juror, and so for the juror to be coordinating with defense counsel doesn’t make any sense.”

Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna said that the founders would be “rolling over in their graves”:
“For McConnell to be basically saying that the President is going to set the terms of the trial, that the President is going to get to decide the timetable and who is called — our founders would be rolling over in their graves.”
