Looks like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t want to partake in the Democrat party’s “redistribution of wealth.”
On Friday, House Democrats rebuked the freshman representative after it was found out that Ocasio-Cortez would not be paying any dues to the Democrats’ House campaign organization — the organization dedicated to re-electing officials with a “D” beside their name.
According to Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez is looking to hold on to her millions in grassroots fundraising, not wanting share a dime with any colleagues — in fact, she plans to use her funds to help oust some Democrats she doesn’t particularly like.
“Sometimes the question comes: ‘Do you want to be in a majority or do you want to be in the minority?’” Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y. said when asked about Ocasio-Cortez’s position. “And do you want to be part of a team?”
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairwoman Cheri Bustos did her best to downplay the lack of money flowing to the party from Ocasio-Cortez.
“That’s always up to individual members so I guess I don’t think about it one way or another,” Bustos said when asked about Ocasio-Cortez’s refusal to pay party dues. “We’re raising record amounts of money from our members.”
DCCC declined to comment any further than that.
Another Democrat spoke out, opting to remain anonymous: “Deadbeat Cortez should pay her bills. She’s always whining about people paying their fair share and here she is leaving her friends with the bill.”
According to records collected by Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez still owes over $250,000 in DCCC dues.
