House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has withheld articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump from the senate for over two weeks.
Now, one senator is fighting back — not with words, but action.
On Thursday, Missouri Senator Josh Hawley announced that he will be developing legislation that would effectively cancel the House-approved impeachment articles should Pelosi decide to continue stalling the process.
“Dems said impeachment was URGENT. Now they don’t want to have a trial, because they have no evidence. In real world, if prosecution doesn’t proceed with case, it gets dismissed,” Hawley said in a Twitter thread.
He continued, “So on Monday, I will introduce measure to dismiss this bogus impeachment for lack of prosecution. This will expose Dems’ circus for what it is: a fake impeachment, abuse of the Constitution, based on no evidence.”
“If Dems won’t proceed with trial, bogus articles should be dismissed and [President Trump] fully cleared,” he wrote.

Never in our nation’s history has a House speaker, who has articles of impeachment ready to be sent to the Senate, withheld them.
For those saying that Hawley’s motion to upend the impeachment is unprecedented — well, Pelosi already set the standard with unprecedented legislative actions.
Pelosi is trying to justify the stall by saying that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell won’t lead a “fair” trial, as McConnell has said he would collaborate with the White House counsel over how to handle impeachment in the Senate.
But, perhaps Pelosi is stalling the fact that the Republican-controlled Senate will give Trump a major victory and headlines across America will read “President Trump Acquitted,” hurting Democrats Presidential candidates this year.
Either way, the onus is on her to get the ball rolling, especially with Senators like Hawley bringing the pressure.
