Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix flew from Hollywood, California to Washington D.C. in order to give a two-minute speech about climate change alongside Jane Fonda.
Perhaps it’s not the best look for the recent Golden Globe winner.
But, at least the actor admitted to it, saying, “There are things that I can’t avoid. I flew a plane out here today. But one thing I can do is change my eating habits, and so I just want to urge all of you to join me in that.”
Well, he could have avoided a flight to an unnecessary two-minute speech at a rally that he ended up getting arrested at. Yes, that’s right, Phoenix was led off in handcuffs according to TMZ.
Fonda, who started the “Fire Drill Friday” protests, has been arrested four times. If she is arrested again by D.C. police, she could face serious jail time.
Phoenix, who is an avid vegan, attacked the meat and dairy industry as a major purveyor in the rise of climate change.
“The meat and dairy industry is the third-leading cause of climate change,” Phoenix said to great applause. “I think sometimes we wonder what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there is something you can do today, right now, and tomorrow by making a choice about what you consume.”
“Greta said we have to behave like it’s a crisis,” Fonda said last year, citing 17-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg. “We have to behave like our houses are on fire.”
