On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered a State of the Union address which received overwhelming praise from his supporters. But what happened as he closed out the speech is what has everyone talking on Wednesday morning.
Once the president wrapped up his speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi began tearing up the printed version of the speech in full camera view. The shocking moment even caught a number of news personalities off guard, as it’s something that someone in Pelosi’s position has never done before.
According to The Washington Examiner, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley wasn’t happy with Pelosi’s action, calling the tearing up of the speech “unbecoming” of someone at her level of public office.
“Disappointed to see @SpeakerPelosi rip up the speech that mentioned lives we’ve lost and heroes we celebrated at the SOTU,” Haley wrote. “No matter how you feel or what you disagree with, remember others are watching. This was unbecoming of someone at her level in office.”

While Pelosi received plenty of flak for her post-speech stunt, shortly afterward she was asked why she chose to rip up the hard copy of the speech, to which she replied that she believed it was the “courteous” thing to do while calling Trump’s speech “dirty.”
Though some in the media expected Trump to mention the Pelosi-led impeachment against him, he instead focused on a number of notable guests he invited to the speech and highlighted his accomplishments as president.
