President Donald Trump hasn’t taken a salary since he was elected to the White House, holding to his promise that he would use his presidential salary for worthy causes.
According to Daily Caller, he once again fulfilled that promise by donating his third-quarter 2019 salary to help with the fight against the opioid addiction epidemic that currently plagues America and wreaks havoc on people from all communities, ages, economic status and race.
Officially, the $100,000 check will be made out to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health and is earmarked “to continue the ongoing fight against the opioid crisis.”
The crisis of opioid addiction is still spiraling out of control and are still on the rise, as the Centers for Disease Control indicates. However, 2017 was an especially nasty year with opioid-related deaths spiking like never before.
Even First Lady Melania Trump got involved in the fight, as she attended a function at a Baltimore school called the youth opioid summit.
“Thank you to all of the students who are here. I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way,” the first lady said on Tuesday to the group of young people.
The president has donated past portions of his salary to issues like border security, alcoholism research and other causes that are actively trying to save American lives.
