It’s coming up on two weeks since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decided to withhold the articles of impeachment from the Republican-controlled Senate.
And now Minority Whip Steve Scalise, who was nearly killed in a 2017 shooting that targeted Republican congressmen, thinks that Pelosi should just run for Senate if she wants to control the process so badly.
“It’s our duty to turn [articles of impeachment] over — it’s not like it’s some mechanism she can control,” Scalise said on Fox News Sunday, according to The Hill.
“It’s not [Pelosi’s] role to go over to the Senate, she can run for the Senate if she wants to be a senator,” Scalise continued. “For months she was saying how important it is, they’ve got to remove this president immediately, he’s a threat to their whole way of life … once they pass the impeachment, she doesn’t want the Senate to get the papers to start the trial.”
Scalise was asked by guest anchor Mike Emanuele about Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s recent comments on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, where she expressed concern for how he plans to work with the White House during the trial.
“You’ve seen her make statements concerned about what Democrats have been doing and saying as well,” he said, dismissing her concerns.
“The Senate’s going to conduct a fair trial, I have confidence in Mitch McConnell doing that. There was not a fair trial in the House… the Senate will have a fair trial, and you’ll see an acquittal,” Scalise concluded.
