Sarah Sanders May Run For Arkansas Governorship, Feels Like She Has ‘Been Called’ To Run

Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made headlines after she announced late last year her potential run for the Arkansas governor’s seat in the upcoming 2022 election.

According to Daily Caller, Sanders said she felt that she has been “called” to run for the elected office.

“There are two types of people who run for office,” Sanders said, according to the NYT. “People that are called and people that just want to be a senator or governor. I feel like I’ve been called.”

“It’s the role I’ve been pushed into,” Sanders added, speaking about running in the governor’s race. “I wouldn’t want to do that if I wasn’t the right person to fit what the state needed at that time.”

Sanders would likely, thanks in part to her father Mike Huckabee’s reputation among voters in the state of Arkansas, fare well at the polls.

Her father served as governor of the state from 1996 to 2007, before later making several unsuccessful bids for the White House.

President Trump even suggested that Sanders make a career out of politics shortly after she departed the White House, on good terms, in the middle of 2019.

Sanders, who is generally known by her supporters for her dry and charming sense of humor, made light of her days behind the podium as Trump’s front-line press secretary against a usually combative mainstream media.

“I’m just excited to have people clap when I come up to a podium,” Sanders said of attending events the deep-red state she calls home. “It’s very different from what I’m used to. All I can say is thank God I’m back in Arkansas.”

Earlier this year, Sanders announced that she intends to write a book about her time serving in the Trump administration and unlike many tell-all’s from former Trump administration departees, she’s expected to shine a positive light on her experience and on the president.
