Virginia State Senator Amanda Chase, a Republican, warned her supporters on Friday that an upcoming pro-gun rally — which is expected to draw massive crowds — could possibly be a trap, given that the governor of the state has already declared a preeminent “state of emergency” because of the expected turnout and possible clashes between sides.
According to Daily Wire, the Virginia Citizens Defense League is the main organizer of the pro-gun rally, which will be held on Monday, January 20 at the state capitol grounds. The event is being held on the state’s annual “Lobby Day.”
“Tens of thousands are expected to show up for the event Monday in Richmond. Given the contentious nature of the issue, the prospect of such a large event has raised tensions. Earlier, [Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph] Northam declared a state of emergency. And recent arrests have further raised those tensions,” a local news report indicated.
Chase issued a grave warning on Facebook to those who plan on attending, invoking the possibility that the state’s Democratic leadership could possibly use the event to paint law-abiding gun owners in a negative light, or worse.
“Sadly, I am posting this, knowing that the Governor of Virginia has declared a State of Emergency in our state. I want you to be aware of how we are being set up. Does the Patriot Act ring a bell? Does the National Defense Authorization Act ring a bell?”
Chase doubled down on her warning, telling attendees that if they choose to show up wearing anything that could even loosely suggest they are part of a militia, that they could very well be arrested and held as domestic terrorists.
“If people show up wearing any kind of uniform, patch or other symbol on their clothing signifying they belong to a militia and something goes wrong, you could/will be held as a domestic terrorist,” Chase warned in her post.
She also warned of the possibility that the state government might “plant” operatives on the pro-gun side who have been ordered to stir up chaos, which would likely trigger a drastic response from state-ordered law enforcement.
“If anyone steps out of line, all it takes is one person, it may even be a government plant….if that plant does anything to disrupt the rally, you could/will be arrested as a domestic terrorist.”
Chase went on to claim that Gov. Northram has allegedly carefully set the stage to use the event to the Democratic party’s advantage, as the state legislators have recently proposed or passed a number of gun control laws which have been highly criticized by pro-Second Amendment advocates across the state and around the country.
