During the impeachment hearings in the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Adam Schiff ran everything on lockdown, with the Republicans not even being allowed a minority hearing.
However, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz revealed that the game changes in the Senate.
During an interview with TheBlaze’s Glenn Beck, Cruz made it clear that President Donald Trump will be able to do far more than he was allowed in the House, which he called a “partisan show trial.”
“We will have a trial in the Senate unlike the House, where there was no due process and no fairness,” Cruz confirmed to Beck, according to TheBlaze. “I believe [the trial in] the Senate will be much more fair.”
Additionally, Cruz revealed that Trump and his legal team will have much more flexibility, being allowed to call any witnesses he would like — including Hunter Biden or alleged whistleblower Eric Ciaramella.
“We’re going to allow the White House and the president to present their defense,” Cruz stated. “I believe that means if the president wants to call witnesses, the president should be able to call witnesses.”
“If the president wants to call Hunter Biden or the whistleblower — whomever the president wants to call,” Cruz said.
With Republicans looking to stand up for Trump and against the pro-impeachment Democrats, the case ultimately looks like it’ll closed in the senate in favor of the president.
Where that will leave the Democrats is anyones guess. Will they accept defeat and move on? Will they look to impeach again? Will the 2020 election be vastly affected by the outcome of the senate trial?
Only time will tell.
