As President Donald Trump and his White House team prepare for the inevitability of an impeachment trial in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate, Trump on Tuesday sent House Speaker Nancy Pelosi a six-page letter which absolutely excoriated House Democrats over their attempt to impeach him.
The letter, according to The Hill, made clear in no uncertain terms that he believes the entire impeachment process is invalid, a violation of Democrats’ oaths of office and a long list of other attacks against Democrats for what they’ve done to American democracy.
Here are a few excerpts from the fiery letter, which immediately grabbed headlines across the country.
“I write to express my strongest and most powerful protest against the partisan impeachment crusade being pursued by the Democrats in the House of Representatives,” the letter says.
“This impeachment represents an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by Democrat Lawmakers, unequaled in nearly two and a half centuries of American legislative history.”
Trump went on to accuse Democrats of hiding potential acts of corruption committed by former Vice President Joe Biden and his son in Ukraine.
“You know full well that Vice President Biden used his office and $1 billion of U.S. aid money to coerce Ukraine into firing the prosecutor who was digging into the company paying his son millions of dollars,” the letter read.
Trump also addressed each of the two articles of impeachment levied against him by House Democrats, completely shredding their allegations line-by-line.
He summed up the letter by accusing Democrats of using impeachment as a political weapon and because they were mad about Hillary Clinton losing the election in 2016.
“You have developed a full-fledged case of what many in the media call Trump Derangement Syndrome and sadly, you will never get over it!” Trump wrote.
