President Donald Trump stirred headlines on Wednesday night with a bombshell video of former national security adviser John Bolton making contradictory claims about the Ukraine situation in August than what he has currently written in his new, tell-all book.
According to Fox News, the president simply tweeted “GAME OVER!” and attached a video clip of Bolton during an August interview in which he seemed to explain the Ukraine corruption situation quite differently than what’s apparently in the manuscript of his new book.
The interview was one of Bolton in an appearance on Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, in which he discussed Ukraine policy. He failed any mentions of “quid pro quo,” as he’s claimed in his new book and admitted that the Trump administration was solely focused on rooting out corruption in Ukraine at the time, even calling it a “high priority.”
Taking matters further, Bolton claimed in the August interview that Trump’s conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine was “cordial” and not once did he mention anything inappropriate took place.

Of course, in Bolton’s new book, which to some extent derailed the Senate impeachment trial and caused Democrats to become increasingly interested in hearing his testimony, he claimed that Trump told him that he wanted to hold the Ukraine military aid package on the condition that Ukraine launch an investigation into the Bidens.
Making matters worse for Democrats and for Bolton, another old video clip was surfaced by Fox News in which House Manager Adam Schiff ripped Bolton’s credibility during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in March 2018, saying he was prone to conspiracy theories.
“This is someone who’s likely to exaggerate the dangerous impulses of the president toward belligerence, his proclivity to act without thinking, and his love of conspiracy theories,” Schiff said of Bolton.

The new video clips now pose a serious hurdle for Democrats who want to see Bolton testify. If Democrats get their way and win the vote to call witnesses, given the resurfacing of the aforementioned videos, his testimony will likely hold much less water than it would have 24 hours ago.
Unless witnesses are called to testify, Republicans signaled on Wednesday that they’re pushing to end the impeachment trial by Friday, with an acquittal vote that will almost assuredly be in the president’s favor.
