Hunter Biden is reportedly getting a lot of attention in the wake of the impeachment acquittal of President Donald Trump, as reports have circulated since Wednesday that the son of the former vice president is under the investigative eye of several top GOP senators.
According to the Washington Examiner, the U.S. Treasury Department is honoring a request by Senate investigative committees submitted back in November for “suspicious activity reports,” — which are financial transaction reports that could point to crimes like fraud and money laundering.
A spokesperson for the ranking Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Ron Wyden, slammed the Treasury Department for “rapidly complying” with the Republican senators’ request for Biden’s records, calling the investigation nothing more than a “sideshow.”
“Applying a blatant double standard, Trump administration agencies like the Treasury Department are rapidly complying with Senate Republican requests — no subpoenas necessary — and producing ‘evidence’ of questionable origin,” the spokesperson for Wyden said.
One of the senators heading up the Hunter Biden investigation, Sen. Chuck Grassley, slammed Democrats for attempting to interfere with the investigation, after explaining that he wasn’t able to elaborate on specifics regarding the financial records they requested and are reportedly receiving.
“As a matter of routine, we don’t discuss sensitive third-party material during ongoing investigations. It’s unfortunate that Democrats whom we’ve kept in the loop on our investigations would recklessly seek to interfere with legitimate government oversight,” Grassley said.
Senate Republicans are pressing ahead with investigations into the finances of Hunter Biden. The Treasury Department complied with their request for documents related to his ties to a Ukrainian energy company, according to a Senate Democrat. https://t.co/V2rpnUVzyw

The investigation into Hunter Biden appears to be seeking information on whether or not an Obama-era administration official assisted Hunter Biden for personal financial gain while his father, Joe Biden, was the vice president of the United States.
As Daily Sounder previously reported, shortly after Trump’s acquittal, two GOP senators requested Hunter Biden’s previous travel records.
